How Controlled Temperature Water Baths Enhance Laboratory Efficiency
Controlled temperature water bath is very helpful tool in laboratory for work of the experiment. However, like all devices, there may be problems. One of the significant problems is unreliable temperature. This means the water in the bath does not always stay at the temperature that the thermostatic water bath is set at. Sometimes it is too hot, sometimes too cold. This will have an impact on the experimental result especially the one which requires certain temperature. Another problem is the evaporation of water. It is well known that as water evaporates, the level reduces and hence if it gets too low, the bath will not perform properly. At the same time the temperature also changes thus becomes less accurate
Besides, dirty water bath may also become source of contamination. The water bath may be contaminated with foreign substances that in turn contaminate the samples thus experiments get spoiled. Sometimes, too, the heater or thermostat could be out of order. In that case, the water may not be heated at all or it may get overheated. Finally, there can be other water bath maintenance problems like leaking or the occurrence of unusual noises.
